This week’s prompt is:
Would you rather be friends with Hermione or Ginny?
When we first meet Ginny, she’s a shy little thing hiding behind her mother at King’s Cross Station as Harry, Ron, and the twins hurry to Platform 9 3/4. That image of her has stuck with me through the other books and I’ve never been able to shake it. She does grow to be pretty fierce; she was pretty BA on the Quidditch Team, and from her very first year she tried hard to resist Tom Riddle! But deep down I always sensed shy little Ginny Weasley from King’s Cross Station, the sensitive girl who sympathized with Riddle and was shocked and dismayed when Draco spilled her books at Flourish & Blott’s. It’s always irked me a little, perhaps because she’s a bit too much like myself!
Hermione, on the other hand, is fierce and wickedly intelligent to boot. I’ve never sensed Hermione to have the slightest inclination towards fear or pessimism, besides a twinge of momentary hopelessness she experiences in Deathly Hallows — not out of fear for herself, despite how desperate the Trio’s situation was, but for their friends and all the others that were being hunted. Selfless, wise, clever, brave, loyal, and extremely well-read — are there any flaws to Hermione’s character? I don’t think she and I would ever run out of things to talk about, but I also know that she would be wise enough to respect silence and enjoy being “alone together,” too, a really important quality for me in a friend! I would have such a blast with Hermione if she were real. 🙂
