This week’s prompt is:
Which non-Harry Potter characters would do well at Hogwarts?
Such a great question!! Though a Harry Potter fanfiction junkie back in the day, I was never terribly fond of crossover fanfiction that placed characters from other universes as students at Hogwarts, but I think that was mainly because I never stopped to think on whose head I would drop the Sorting Hat.
Prunella Gentleman from Zen Cho’s Sorcerer to the Crown would probably annoy a lot of her fellow students with her rule-breaking, but I think Dumbledore would probably get a kick out of her. She’s exuberant, compassionate, and extremely creative when it comes to resolving situations with magic, so I think she’d be a shoe-in for Gryffindor!
Isabella Camherst, Lady Trent
I haven’t finished A Natural History of Dragons by Marie Brennan, but I’m completely absorbed by Isabella’s memoirs on her hunt for knowledge about dragons. With her nose always ink-stained, she’s definitely a Ravenclaw, and she and Hagrid would be besties, I’m sure!
Kjieran van Stone
Spymaster-turned-double agent Kjieran van Stone of Melissa McPhail’s A Pattern of Shadow & Light series is an incredibly adaptable character. Even with all the terrifying unknowns of his life under the close scrutiny of a tyrant (the last thing you want is a tyrant with insane magical ability!), he is able to make the best of his situation and continue to work towards the betterment of mankind on behalf of the king to whom he remains fiercely loyal. I think he would be placed in either Hufflepuff for his unwavering fealty or Gryffindor for the incredible heights of his bravery.
